BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene (7-11, 2-3) defeated St. Ambrose 3-1 on Thursday night with set scores of 25-23, 26-28, 30-28, and 25-15. The Tigers finished with 66 kills and 10 service aces in the win.
Olivet took the first set 25-23 behind a balanced attack, with Nic VanOort recording six kills. Tomas Gonzalez helped lead the offense with several assists, setting up key points for VanOort and Cameron Johnston.
St. Ambrose narrowly won the second set 28-26 despite Olivet briefly holding the lead after kills from Gonzalez, Cade Ooms, and Johnston.
The Tigers responded in the third set, winning a close 30-28 battle. Ooms delivered key kills late in the set, while Gonzalez continued to guide the offense with multiple assists.
Olivet closed the match strong in the fourth set with a 25-15 victory. Gonzalez added another service ace, while Johnston, Ben Kreke, and VanOort contributed key kills to seal the win.
