BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene University (18-6, 14-2) defeated Saint Xavier University (15-8, 11-4), 91-82, at McHie Arena, overcoming a first-quarter deficit with 21 steals and a strong free-throw performance, hitting 24 of 29 attempts.
The first quarter began with the Tigers establishing an early lead through effective play in the paint, highlighted by Brooklyn Marshall's layups and supported by Jayden Flagg's assists. Olivet built their largest lead of 8 points at 6:56, capitalizing on the Cougars' turnovers and converting them into points. However, the Cougars responded and closed the gap, with Veronica Bafia's scoring helping them edge ahead. The quarter concluded with Olivet Nazarene trailing 31–29, setting a competitive tone for the game.
Tigerball seized control in the second quarter, marked by a strong defensive presence and efficient scoring. Lindsey Nell was instrumental, contributing consistently with a layup at 6:41, followed by two made free throws. The Tigers extended their lead in the third quarter with a 10-4 run, highlighted by Preslee Michael's three-pointer at 7:32, which pushed the score to 61-50. The Tigers press continued to cause problems, with key steals by Kalli Papenfuss and Flagg, maintaining control despite the Cougars' attempts to close the gap.
