MILLER FIRES THREE PAST CU AS TIGERS CLAIM FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Olivet Nazarene women's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2022-23 campaign on the back of Melea Miller's first career natural hattrick as the Tigers bounced Cornerstone University Golden Eagles 3-1 Saturday night. The Tigers improve to 1-3 on the year in their final game of the non-conference slate.

Kaylee Evers set the tone by creating multiple grade-A chances in the first half. Her first of two opportunities developed in the fourth minute of play when she broke the CU backline forcing the Golden Eagles' Hope Steenwyk into a difficult save. Evers knocked on the door once again at the 20:21-mark, but once more was stopped by the Cornerstone netminder. Miller entered the match at the 25th minute and did not take long to make an impact. As the match approached the 30th minute, Sara Loichinger floated a pass beyond the visitor's backline setting the Freshman forward off to chase. With a little breathing room, the Bloomington native found the back of the net to open the scoring. ONU held the lead all the way up until the final minute of the half. The gold and navy tied up the match with 48 seconds on the clock nodding in a corner service from close range. Nothing separated the teams at the break.

Halftime: Olivet Nazarene 1, Cornerstone 1

Miller again came off the bench in the 60th minute to score 73 seconds later. Susanna Lindquist doled out her first assist as Miller tallied her second goal of the match. The natural hattrick was completed in the 66th minute when Abbey Cash picked out Miller at the far post for the header finish. The Purple and Gold back line closed out the game allowing only one shot on goal for the remainder of the match. Tigers claimed the victory 3-1 at the final whistle.
