TIGERS HOLD OFF SPARTANS TO PICK UP SECOND-STRAIGHT ROAD WIN
TIGERS HOLD OFF SPARTANS TO PICK UP SECOND-STRAIGHT ROAD WIN

ST. LOUIS, Mo. –  The Olivet Nazarene University football team held off a late rally to pick up their second-consecutive road win with a 37-30 victory over the Missouri Baptist Spartans Saturday afternoon.

After surrendering the first score of the game, the Tigers put up the next 23 points on the scoreboard. Kayde Mahuka knocked through a 36-yard field goal while Cameron Crouch punched in a pair of touchdowns with his legs from one yard out to put the Tigers up 16-7 early in the second quarter.

David Hutton, making his return to the field after suffering an injury in the first game of the season, scored his first touchdown of the season when he connected with Ryan Morrison-Gravenberg for an 11-yard score.

Following the opening drive touchdown, the ONU defense kept the Spartans off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half, taking a three-score lead into the locker room at halftime.

Halftime: Olivet Nazarene 23, Missouri Baptist 7

The Spartans had to settle for a pair of field goals after the Tiger defense stopped two long drives in the redzone. Brian Jenkins hauled in a 31-yard strike from Crouch to extend the Tiger Lead to 30-13.

Missouri Baptist would eventually find their way back into the endzone on the following drive, but Evan Leake had the answer with a four-yard touchdown to put the Tigers back up 17.

A late rally was mustered as the Spartans would score on back-to-back drives, but it wasn't enough to surmount the lead the Tigers had built. ONU would hold on to win the contest 37-30 and improve to 3-1 in the MSFA.
