CHICAGO, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene University's men's volleyball team lost 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 17-25) in the CCAC Championship on the road against Saint Xavier on Saturday.
The Cougars took control early in the opening set, building an 8-3 lead behind steady swings and ONU errors. Garrett Schad and Brody McAfee added kills to trim the deficit, and a solo block by Harvey brought ONU within four. Max Rodenmeyer and Tyler Van Laten contributed from the service line, and Kahaku Marquez and Will Byers paired for a block to make it 17-13, but Saint Xavier closed strong with two service aces to take the set 25-17.
ONU kept pace in the second, tying it at 6-6 and later pulling within one at 20-19 following a McAfee kill and a block by Marquez and Schad. However, Saint Xavier ended the frame on a 5-1 run to secure a 25-20 win and a 2-0 lead.
In the third, ONU tied the set at 12 after a McAfee kill and back-to-back aces from Kamaunu. But Saint Xavier responded with six straight points and never looked back, closing the match 25-17 after a late ONU block and an error from the Cougars.
The Tigers hit just .068 as a team and were led by Schad and McAfee with five and six kills, respectively. Harvey hit a perfect 1.000 with three kills and added a team-best three blocks, while Gonzalez dished out 10 assists. Jaiton Kamaunu finished with two aces and four digs.
Looking Ahead
This loss marks the end of a historic season for ONU. The Tigers end the seaosn with a 15-13 overall record.
