CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. – Coming off great performances in South Bend at the end of last month, the ONU men's tennis team returned to action against Prairie State College at the Pioneer Sports Complex in Chicago Heights.
Chatton Haws and Paul Saleh started things off on the right foot, winning their match 6-3 and putting Olivet on the scoreboard first. Keeping the momentum rolling for Olivet were the #2 team in Keenan Haws and Martin Melnizky, also winning their doubles match 6-3. Prairie State prevented the sweep and took the last doubles match from David Sanchez and Adam Hartford 6-1.
The Tigers would roll through the singles matches, winning five out of six to claim the decisive victory. Chatton Haws started the singles for Olivet and dominated the hard court, taking all but two games off his opponent winning 6-1,6-1. Backing him up in a three-set thriller was his doubles partner, Saleh who battled a close first set and then cruised to victory winning his match 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. Melnizky and Sanchez also won their matches in the #3 and #4 positions in straight sets 6-3,6-3 and 6-0, 6-2. Rounding out the singles matches were Hartford and Keenan Haws. Coming off a tough loss in doubles, Hartford turned it around to win in a second three setter for the Tigers at 6-1,3-6,6-4. Keenan Haws came up short in his match 6-1, 6-2 and Prairie State narrowly escaped a singles sweep.
The Tigers look to keep their momentum rolling into their next match on Oct. 24 in Bourbonnais, Ill. against Roosevelt.
