BOURBONNAIS, IL – The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team rode the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ) at McHie Arena on Wednesday, September 20, 2022.
The Tigers stole the show in the first set, securing the first 7 points of the game from errors made by CCSJ and a kill by senior Sutton Bate. Bate went on to secure another kill, giving the Tigers a six point lead. Kills by freshmen Halle Nicholas, Sophia Johnston, and Julianne Kielion and sophomores Kaylee Cozen Kaitlyn Kolb secured the set for the Tigers, ending in 25-11.
The second set saw a slow start for the Tigers. The Crimson Wave held dominance for the majority of the set until back to back kills by Nicholas tied the match and shifted the lead to Olivet. Sophomore Techiya Jackson secured her first kill of the night, resulting in a one point lead for the Tigers. A Crimson Wave service ace secured the set for ONU with a score of 25-23.
The final set of the night was a close one. Here we saw both squads fighting until the end. CCSJ secured the first major lead of the set before quickly surrendering points to ONU via an exchange of errors Freshman Kylie Hasselbacher and sophomore Kelsey Todd secured their first kills of the night, each giving ONU a two point lead, respectively. Todd landed another kill that swept up the set for the Tigers, ending in 25-23.
