GIULIANO BREAKS ANOTHER SCHOOL RECORD AS ONU SHOWS OUT AT HOME MEET

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's and women's track & field teams continued their outdoor seasons when they hosted the Tiger Open at Ward Field Saturday.

After breaking a pair of school records last weekend at the Gibson Invitational, Vince Giuliano shattered another ONU program record this weekend at the Tiger Open. Giuliano bolted to a time of 10.58 in the 100-meter dash to hit the NAIA "B" standard and win the event at the home meet. Calvin Thomas (10.86) placed third and Andrew Hudson (11.01) finished fourth in the 100-meter dash.

Thomas followed that up with the top time in the 200-meter dash at 21.61. Three other Tigers placed inside the top eight in the event. Conner Betts (22.14) was third, Hudson (22.45), and Ethan Piacenti (22.78) was seventh. Jonathan Thomas finished fifth in the 400-meter run at 52.18, with Alex Powell just behind in sixth at 52.35.

The ONU men placed five in the top eight in the 800-meter run, with four Tigers finishing within three seconds of each other. Max Grant led the charge with a third-place finish at 1:57.17, Erik Richter (1:57.96) came in fourth, Chapman Neal (1:59.63) placed fifth, and Mabaraka Mmbumba (2:00.15) finished sixth. In eighth place was Connor Price, who crossed the finish line at 2:01.60.

Flynn Prather was the champion of the men's 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line at 4:05.33 to win the event. Jordan Vanbarriger (4:10.51) placed fourth in the event while Hayden Colclasure came in seventh at 4:19.26. Taylor Vallangeon (15:25.79) and Austin Rush (16:03.02) led the Tigers in the longest-distance event of the meet, placing fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 5000-meter run.

Ivan Williams finished as the runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 6.80 meters and then placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.49 meters. Brody Vollrath was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 13.35 meters. He also placed third in the hammer (44.14m) and sixth in the discus (40.77m). Daniel DeRamus placed inside the top three in the discus (44.80m) and shot put (13.11m), taking second in the former and third in the latter.

For the women, Kiara Carter was the champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Her winning times of 12.38 and 25.08 mark the fifth and sixth fastest times in school history for each event, respectively. ONU took the runner-up finishes in both events: Kimberly Brent (12.62) took second in the 100-meter dash while Sydney Hatch (26.54) placed second in the 200-meter dash. Carsyn Burdine was sixth in the 100-meters (13.38) and fifth in the 200-meters (27.08).

Hannah Antkoviak, the reigning NAIA Track Athlete of the Week, continued her spectacular sophomore season with a win in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 55.51 bested the field by nearly seven seconds and cleared the NAIA "A" standard in the event. Emma Betts joined her on the podium with a third-place finish at 1:02.71. Hatch came in fifth (1:02.97).

Thee Tigers finished inside the top eight in the 800-meter run. Tori Orton (2:25.62) finished as the runner-up, Heidi Heldt (2:30.02) placed fifth, and Lin Marijnissen (2:33.99) took sixth. Jacey Schickel was the champion in the 1500-meter run, nearly entering the four-minute threshold with a time of 5:00.05. She led a group of five Tigers inside the top eight in the event. Marijnissen (5:19.66) placed third, Mackenzie Park (5:26.40) finished fourth, Kathryn Swanson (5:38.83) took seventh, and Mary Farhat (5:39.34) came in eighth.

Eleanor Fournier put forth the top time in the women's 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line at 18:22.00 to win the event. Lauren Smith placed sixth at 19:27.50. Emma Betts was the winner in 100-meter hurdles at 16.34.

Jolene Mantoan and Hailey Perrine both blasted out a 5.07-meter mark in the long jump to go 1-2 in the event. Perrine also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.07 meters. Karleigh Baran, Abigail Lueck, and Kylie Dittman all cleared 2.65 meters to tie for third in the pole vault. Chloe VanderVeen tied for fourth after clearing 1.40 meters in the high jump.

Sarah Schoonmaker took first in the discus with a top throw of 42.14 meters. Courtney Hall finished as the runner-up in the shot put at 12.24 meters before placing third in the hammer at 43.57 meters. Avery Spencer took second in the javelin with a mark of 37.27 meters.

A group of Tigers will compete at the Drake Relays this weekend. The ONU track & field teams will be hosting their second-consecutive meet with the Olivet Open on Saturday, April 29.
