CHICAGO, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene University swept this week's edition of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Track Athlete of the Week awards, with Kiara Carter and Vince Giuliano getting the nod for their respective sports. The league office announced the winners Wednesday afternoon.
Carter collected the track accolades after winning the 400-meter dash and placing second in the 200-meter dash at the North Central College Heenan Invitational on Saturday. The junior bested the 24-member field in the former event by better than one second, finishing in 58.14 seconds to hit an 'A' standard time. That currently ranks 11th-best in the nation.
Carter registered a time of 25.91 seconds among 38 competitors in the 200-meter dash. ONU placed third among six teams at the meet.
Giuliano claimed a pair of titles with 'A' standard performances at the North Central College Heenan Invitational on Saturday. Included was a school-record 6.82-second time in the 60-meter dash, where he competed against 28 other athletes.
The senior also placed first out of 47 participants in the 200-meter dash with his time of 21.83 seconds in earning the weekly track accolades.
The efforts helped Olivet Nazarene capture the team title at the meet.
The Tigers will be back on the oval Friday when they host the ONU Invite at the Perry Center. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. CST.
