RV MEN'S SOCCER STARTS 2022-23 WITH A VICTORY OVER THE FORESTERS

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The (RV) Olivet Nazarene men's soccer program picked up their first win of the 2022-23 season over the Huntington University Foresters 1-0 Thursday night at Snowbarger. Justin Eisenmann broke the deadlock in the second half while Mike Giannotta recorded eight saves and a shutout to secure three points in the Tigers' home opener.

ONU took the field with nine of their 11 starters who started in the NAIA Opening Round match in Omaha, Neb. last season. The Foresters provided a scare early as a point-blank opportunity in the fourth minute forced Giannotta to a reaction save. Olivet calmed the game down from that point on leading the purple and gold to outshoot their opponents 5-1 for the rest of the half. The Tigers' best scoring chances came in the 36th minute forcing the HU netminder to a big save to his left. The other developed three minutes later as Max Jasper created space at the corner of the penalty box and curled his shot just over the crossbar. Both sides entered the break scoreless.

Halftime: (RV) Olivet Nazarene 0, Huntington 0

It took 12 minutes into the second half for the game's lone goal to find the back of the net. Eisenmann and Jasper connected a move through the center of the pitch leading the junior forward from Breuningsweiler, Germany to a one-on-one situation with the Huntington goalkeeper. Eisenmann's finish at the 56:56 mark was his 14th career goal off the back of the 2021 campaign when he netted 13. Giannotta and the ONU defense locked it down to close out the remaining 33 minutes. The senior netminder from Papendrecht, Netherlands came up huge in the 73rd minute as he put two paws on a Forester strike that careened off the crossbar. Giannotta preserved his seventh career shutout with the win.
