BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Olivet Nazarene men's soccer program were lifted to a 2-1 overtime victory over Lincoln College in the final Homecoming event of the week. Max Jasper netted a pair of upper-90 free-kick goals to down the top team in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Saturday night.
A high-intensity match kicked off between two sides jostling for supremacy in the conference. Martin Imping found a great opportunity early on as an intricate combination play between Benjamin Struebelt and Edgar Pani played Max Jasper in on the end line. Jasper's cross found the feet of Imping at the top of the 18-yard box whose effort drifted just high and wide of the top right corner. The breakthrough came with only 1:30 left in the first half as Jasper curled a beautiful free-kick from 25 yards out into the top left corner leaving the Lynx netminder with nothing to do but watch as the ball hit the back of the net.
Halftime: Olivet Nazarene 1, Lincoln College 0
Lincoln College put the pressure on coming out of the break. They outshot the Tigers 12-5 and won five corner kicks to ONU's three. Mike Giannotta came up big with six timely saves to keep Olivet in the lead. The dam broke as the Lynx's equalized in the 80th minute with a poked ball past the Tiger netminder. Justin Eisenmann had one last chance in the waning minutes to steal a late winner but the Lincoln goalkeeper parried it away. For the fourth consecutive match, Olivet Nazarene headed to overtime.
End of Regulation: Olivet Nazarene 1, Lincoln College 1
At the 96:57 mark, Fabio Hasler drove towards the end line to draw a foul just outside the penalty area on the right-hand side of the pitch. From an acute angle, Jasper struck yet another free-kick goal that stretched the net in the upper-90 corner to take all three points and jump up the second place in the CCAC standings.
