TIGERS AND JAGUARS SHARE A POINT AFTER 110 MINUTES OF ACTION

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene men's soccer team settled with a 1-1 draw hosting Governors State Tuesday night. The Tigers overcame a freekick goal and went down a man in overtime to secure the point at home.

Governors State put the press on ONU straight from the kick-off recording the first four fouls but also created the first two Jaguar scoring opportunities of the match. Justin Eisenmann and James Lynch had back-to-back opportunities that were cleared off the line in the 25th minute of play. GSU opened the scoring in the 41st minute by way of a quickly taken free-kick. The Tigers responded 1:55 later as a Nick Kilian corner kick was headed into the back of the net by Maxim Ngom. The match reached the first intermission knotted up at a goal apiece.

The Jaguars found quality opportunities to regain the lead at the 55:50 and 62:35-minute marks. First, a Governors State volley effort required a clearance off of the goal line by Max Schoebel. Then, GSU almost scored off a corner kick of their own as a headed shot careened off the crossbar. The Tigers found their footing from that point on maintaining the majority of the possession. In the final five minutes of regulation, ONU won three consecutive corners and had a shot attempt in the 89th minute that was parried away by the Governors State netminder.

Looking to end the game quickly in overtime, Benjamin Struebelt broke the Jaguar backline 57 seconds into the first period of extra time to force the GSU keeper into a save. At the 94:44-mark, the Tigers were forced to go a man down after being shown a red card. Despite the man advantage for GSU, ONU pushed on searching for a game-winner.
