BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University Tigers' Nick Kilian netted the game-winner in extra time to down the Judson Eagles 1-0 at home Wednesday night. ONU improved to 7-1 on the year, 4-0 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), while also extending their win streak to seven games on the season.
Fabio Hasler created the first good scoring chance of the contest. Some beautiful build-up play from Nick Kilian and Max Jasper up the left side of the pitch opened up Hasler in front of goal but placed his shot just wide. At the 17th minute, Martin Imping darted through the middle of the field off a counter-attack. Imping played Justin Eisenmann in on goal but could not get his shot off before the charging Eagle netminder collected the ball.
The Eagles were the closest of the two sides to open the scoring when a Luis Germano free-kick struck the post. Leonard Bewig smothered the Judson follow-up attempt to keep the proceedings scoreless. As the half wound down, the play on the field opened up as end-to-end attacking by both teams created opportunities. James Lynch picked up the ball at the top of the penalty box and quickly turned to get his shot off forcing Martin Argirov into his third save. It took only 13 seconds for the Eagles to counter the other way and get a scoring chance themselves. An alert Bewig parried away the danger as the match reached the intermission.
Halftime: Olivet Nazarene 0, Judson 0
The Eagles started the second half on the front foot. Judson hit their second post of the evening in the 69th minute on the counter. Another glorious opportunity for the eagles came eight minutes later as a miss-hit from inside the six could have been the breakthrough score. The Tigers found their footing as Eisenmann created two scoring chances in the 80th and 82nd minute that kept rising and sailed over the crossbar. Both teams combined for 33 fouls and three yellow cards. The scoreless regulation forced the Tigers into their first match that required extra time.
End of Regulation: Olivet Nazarene 0, Judson 0
It took only 2:53 into the first period of extra time to find the game-winner. Kilian's corner kick looped to the far post. A back-peddling Eagle goalkeeper misjudged the ball's flight with it ending up in the back of the net.
