CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team came up short in their regular-season finale, falling on the road at Saint Xavier 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 Thursday night at the Shannon Center.
ONU jumped out to an early lead in the first set. Kills from Halle Nicholas and Kaitlyn Kolb and a service ace off the hand of Sara Serafimova created a three-point run that had the Tigers up 6-4. But the Cougars (17-10, 13-1 CCAC), who currently sit second in the CCAC standings, came back by closing the set on an 8-3 run.
The Tigers fell behind early in the next two sets and were unable to make it interesting as they fell to the Cougars in three sets, snapping a three-game ONU win streak.
Kaylee Cozen led the Tiger offense with seven kills. Kolb finished with five kills. Naomi Monney-Hori chipped in four. Ava Smith and Analiese Fredin notched three kills each while Nicholas and Sabrina Sanif both recorded two apiece.
Fredin had a team-high 18 assists while adding eight digs. Serafimova anchored the abc row with 12 digs.
The Tigers finished the regular season 11-17 overall and 7-7 in the CCAC, good for sixth overall in the league standings. They will travel to three-seeded Judson next week for the quarterfinal round of the CCAC Tournament.
