ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team knew they had a tough task ahead of them when they traveled to top-seeded Saint Xavier for the quarterfinal round of the CCAC Tournament. The Tigers gave it their all, but ultimately fell 11-25, 28-26, 14-25, 20-25 to bring their 2022 season to a close.
After dropping the opening set, ONU was able to take the second set off the top-seeded Cougars. Trailing 23-21, the Tigers capitalized off a service error and attack error from SXU to tie it up at 23-all. Halle Nicholas then put away a kill to put the Tigers at set point.
Saint Xavier rallied for two-consecutive points to take the advantage, but it was Kaylee Cozen who hammered home a kill to tie it back up. An attack error and an ensuing kill from SXU tied the game at 26-all, but the duo of Nicholas and Cozen put away back-to-back kills to take the set and even the score 1-1.
With momentum on their side, ONU built an 8-5 lead to kick off the third set. They couldn't hold on to that lead, however, as the Cougars would outscore the Tigers 20-6 to take the third set.
ONU hung tough in the fourth set, scoring four-out-of-five points down the stretch to make it one-point deficit at 21-20. The Cougars were able to fend off the Tigers with four-straight points and take the match 3-1.
