BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team picked up their first win of the young season on their home court, taking down the Titans of IU-South Bend in straight sets to open conference play.
After falling behind 5-3 early in the first set, the Tigers rallied off six-straight points to take the lead. Back-to-back kills from Halle Nicholas would extend the ONU lead until the Titans stormed back to tie the match at 22-all. The Tigers would rise to the occasion with three-straight kills, two coming from Nicholas and the finisher off Sutton Bate to take the opening set.
ONU dominated the second set, with Nicholas leading the charge. After surrendering the first point, the Tigers would collect eight points in a row to take a commanding lead, a lead they would hold on to for the remainder of the set. Nicholas put away nine-consecutive kills to secure a dominant 25-14 second set win.
The third set proved to be the closest set of the match, with both squads fighting for the advantage. Neither squad could build a lead over three points until ONU took over at the end. Julianne Kielion sent the ball over on a set to secure a kill, followed by a Titan serve into the net to give the Tigers their first conference win and their first win of the 2022 season.
