ONU KICKS OFF THE OUTDOOR SEASON WITH A FOURTH PLACE FINISH AT THE DON MCGAREY INVITATIONAL

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's track and field team kicked off its outdoor season at the Don McGarey Invitational on the campus of Kennesaw State University on Friday and Saturday. 

 

Kicking off action on the track on Friday was the 200-meter dash.  Linda Griffith, who was the best finisher for the Tigers, placed in 14th with a time of 25.50 seconds.  Kimberly Brent and Tera Miller finished in 20th and 22nd place with times of 25.76 and 25.78 seconds, respectively. Madeleine Robinson led off action for the Tigers, in the field, with a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.63 meters, which is good for a "B" qualifying standard.  Courtney Hall finished eighth in the event with a mark of 43.52 meters.  In the javelin throw, Avery Spencer placed third in the event with a final mark of 33.09 meters.  In the discus throw, the Tigers saw three top-10 finishers.  Kayla Mikottis finished in fifth with a mark of 38.22 meters, Hall finished in sixth with a mark of 37.72 meters, and Robinson wrapped up the top 10 finishers in the discus with a mark of 36.37 meters, which is good for ninth. The Tigers finished Friday's action standing in forth place with 22 points. 

 

On Saturday, The Tigers got off to a hot start on the track.  The team of Miller, Brent, Tristyn Grube, and Griffith won the 4x100 meter relay with a final time of 47.37.  47.37 seconds is good for the best time in program history and an "A" qualifying standard for the outdoor championships.  Miller then followed up her impressive performance from the 4x100 meter relay to the 400-meter dash as she placed sixth with a time of 57.33, which is good for a "B" qualifying standard.  In the 100-meter dash, Brent then followed up her first-place finish in the 4x100, finishing in eighth-place with a time of 12.59. In the 400-meter hurdles, Griffith raced to a second-place finish with a time of 1:01.96, which is good for the "A" qualifying standard.  Hannah Antkoviak also finished in the top five with a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:04.01, which good for a "B" qualifying standard.   The Tigers concluded the track events with a solid performance in the 4x400 relay.  The team of Antkoviak, Brent, Miller, and Griffith finished in fourth with a time of 3:57.69. 

 

The Tigers also continued their success in the field events.  Olivia Earl and Lindsey Shouse finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the pole vault.  Earl vaulted to a mark of 3.30 meter while Shouse finished with a mark of 3.15 meters.  In the shot put, Robinson, Hall, and Mikottis all finished in the top 10.  Robinson finished in third with a mark of 13.50 meters, Hall finished right behind Robinson in fourth with a throw of 12.90 meters, and Mikottis landed in 10th with a throw of 10.91 meters.  Robinson earned the "B" qualifying mark in the event. In the triple jump, Sanders notched a top 10 finish with a mark of 10.50 meters. 

 

ONU saw a school record broken in the 4x100 meter relay and multiple NAIA Outdoor Championship qualifiers as they placed fourth with 73 points at the Don McGarey Invitational.
