GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet Nazarene University swim & dive teams dropped a dual at Davenport University Saturday afternoon. The Tiger men lost 215-64 while the women fell 160-132.
Women's Meet
ONU opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200-medley relay, with Paige Howell, Julieta Vega, Taylor King, and Halle Briner teaming up to touch the wall second at 1:50.91, less than a half-second behind first at 1:50.59.
Pearson had an excellent day in the pool, taking the top spot in all four of her races on the day. Individually, she went first in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.82), 200 breaststroke (2:24.46), and the 200 IM (2:11.08), while also being part of the quartet that won the 200 freestyle relay at 1:40.28, along with Megan Schroeder, Vega, and Mia Points.
Vega was right behind Pearson in both breaststroke events, placing runner-up in 100 breaststroke (1:05.95) and the 200 breaststroke (2:28.25). Megan Schroeder took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.24) and the 100 freestyle (55.54).
Howell (1:01.35) and Katelyn Inman (1:01.74) went second and third, respectively, in the 100 backstroke, Inman also took third in the 200 backstroke at 2:10.97.
Briner touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle (54.66) while finishing runner-up in her other two individual events: the 200 freestyle (1:57.66) and the 200 IM (2:11.21). King finished third in both the 100 butterfly (1:03.88) and the 200 butterfly (2:25.67).
Kayla Deubel (26.06) and Emma Norman (26.33) went second and third, respectively, in the shortest race of the day, the 50 freestyle.
Grace Barnhart led the Tigers in the distance events, touching the wall first in the 1000 freestyle (10:54.42) and taking silver in the 500 freestyle (5:18.06). Carley Logan finished third in the 1000 freestyle at 11:27.83.
The Tigers wrapped up the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay. King, Logan, Inman, and Deubel touched the wall at 1:44.83 to take bronze.
Men's Meet
The Tiger men finished third in the 200-medley relay to open the meet. Chase Aruskevicius, Ethan Holwerda, Michael Quintana, and Timothy Braun teamed up to take third (3:33.17).
Jack Fries took the top spot 200 freestyle at 1:44.48 and followed it up with a runner-up finish in the 200 IM at 1:57.92. Aruskevicius took third in the 100 backstroke (54.77) while Liam Kuiper placed third in both the 100 breaststroke (1:01.65) and the 200 breaststroke (2:17.92). Quintana turned in a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.64.
Mason Beall was the top Tiger in the distance events, taking the top spot in the 1000 freestyle (10:11.44) and third in the 500 freestyle (4:58.55).
Porter Hoffman, Braun, Beall, and Fries wrapped up the Tigers' day with a third-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay, touching the wall at 1:29.37.
WHATS NEXT?
The Tigers will celebrate their seniors in the Perry Center when they host the Olivet Nazarene University Tri Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. CST.
