COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 3 Olivet Nazarene University women's swim and dive team competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championships inside the Columbus Aquatics Center on Wednesday through Saturday. The Tigers won third-place as a team amassing 410.5 points.
The Tigers saw a strong performance on day one in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The team of Allison Pearson, Halle Briner, Addison Daily, and Carley Logan finished in fifth place of 15 teams with a time of 7:43.43, earning All-American honors. This race was the only race of the day as the Tigers got off to a good start to the Championships.
Teagon Albert got the Tigers off to a hot start in day two of the Championships with an All-American performance finishing third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 202 points. In the first swimming event, the team of Pearson, Briner, Daily, and Helina Reyes earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.22. That performance was good for All-American honors. In the next race, Logan placed eighth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.91, earning her second All-American honor of the meet. Pearson was then edged by Keiser's Camryn Hudson in the 200-yard IM by three one-hundredths of a second to place second with a time of 2:05.55. Julie Vega placed 11th in the event. In the next event, Reyes placed 12th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.42 seconds.
The Tigers then finished day two with a runner-up finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Paige Howell, Megan Schroeder, Ashley Parry, and Pearson touched the pad in 3:50.69. ONU finished the day in third-place overall with 161 points.
Albert continued her diving success into day three of the Championships grabbing another All-American honor finishing fourth in the 3-meter diving with a mark of 200 points. In the pool, the Tigers started out strong in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Howell, Schroeder, Parry, and Pearson finished in third-place with a time of 1:46.77. Pearson then followed up that performance with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard IM, earning All-American honors, with a final time of 4:33.94. In the 100-yard butterfly, Parry garnered her second All-American honor and placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.17 seconds. Reyes finished 14th in the race. In the next event in the pool, Briner finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.36, earning an individual All-American honor.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, the Tigers saw multiple All-American performances. Pearson finished as the runner-up in the event with a time of 1:03.40, Vega touched the pad in 1:04.02, and Schroeder placed seventh with a time of 1:04.85. In the final race of the day, Howell finished in 12th in the 100-yard backstroke. The Tigers still hung on to that third-place standing after three days of competition.
On the final day of the Championships, Logan led off with the 1650-meter freestyle and placed in 12th with a time of 18:17.24. Then, Howell placed 9th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.61. The Tigers then saw Briner place 9th in the 100-yard freestyle with a final time of 52.88. Reyes finished 16th in the race. In the 200-yard breaststroke, the Tigers saw a pair of All-American performances. Vega touched the pad third with a time of 2:19.77 and Payton DeZur finished in fifth with a time of 2:22.25.
The Tigers finished the meet with a pair of record-breaking efforts. In the 200-yard butterfly, Parry broke the school record with a final time of 2:04.74, while finishing in second-place. Also, the team of Pearson, Reyes, Parry, and Briner broke school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a third-place finish with a time of 3:29.36.
The Tigers won third-place as a team with a score with 410.5 points.
