BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene women's soccer team defeated the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees, 1-0, in dramatic fashion Tuesday night at Snowbarger Sports Complex. Abbey Cash's late heroics propelled the Tigers to their second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) win of the year and avenged their CCAC Tournament loss to the Fighting Bees last spring.
The Tigers withstood pressure from the Fighting Bees early absorbing 10 shots, five of which were on target. Samantha Tuuk was up to the task and registered all five saves. Susanna Lindquist had the best opportunity of the half in the 24th minute. She sniffed out a back pass from a Saint Ambrose defender intended for her goalkeeper. Lindquist's first-time shot struck the crossbar and the Tigers thought they had scored but the referee ruled it had not fully crossed the line resulting in play resuming. Both teams could not find the back of the net and went into halftime scoreless.
Halftime: Olivet Nazarene 0, Saint Ambrose 0
Both defensive units stood firm and limited each other's opportunities throughout the second period. With under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Annabel Murley sent in a looping cross towards the back post for a darting Abbey Cash. Cash got the slight touch on the served ball to redirect it into the side netting for the match's first goal at the 82:16 mark. The remaining seven minutes and change turned into a frenzy as the Fighting Bees charged for an equalizer. The Tigers withstood four set-piece opportunities and six shots before the final whistle blew to take the win.
