ONU Women's Soccer to Host 2021 Labor Day Tournament

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene women's soccer program is set to host three other programs for the ONU Labor Day Classic set for Saturday Sep. 4 and Monday Sep. 6. Along with the Tigers, the University of Jamestown (N.D.), No. 4 Marian University (Ind.) and Governors State University will each play two games over the course of the extended weekend on the Snowbarger pitch.

Olivet comes into the weekend with a 0-1-1 overall record in their first two contests. In their most recent match, the Tigers took No.15 Aquinas College (Mich.) to overtime before conceding off a corner kick three minutes into the first period of extra time. Goalkeeper Samantha Tuuk and defender Abbey Cash led the way keeping the Saints out of their net for 90 plus minutes. Tuuk tallied five saves while Cash made two vital blocks off the goal line to keep the Tigers in contention. Kara Jacobs has the lone goal on the year assisted by McKenna Couchenour that came in the season opener, which was a 1-1 draw at Siena Heights (Mich.).

The Tigers' schedule for this Labor Day weekend will begin with a match set against the University of Jamestown on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Jimmies are coming off a 2-0 victory in their home opener over Graceland University (Iowa). Cassandra Diaz and Kamryn Fiscus each scored in the second half while goalkeeper Alex Nowka tallied three saves in the shutout. Jamestown arrives from Jamestown, N.D. and played to a 13-8 overall record, 7-5 in the Great Plains Athletics Conference (GPAC) a season ago. They advanced all the way to the GPAC Championship match in the spring.

Olivet will wrap up their tournament against the likes of No. 4 Marian University on Monday at 5 p.m. The Knights are 2-1 on the year. They are coming off a 5-1 victory over the Judson Eagles with their only loss to No. 8 University of the Cumberlands on the road, 1-0. Two-time reigning First Team NAIA All-American Erin Olesak scored a hat-trick on the Eagles to break Marian's career all-time points record as a junior. Last season, the Knights finished as Crossroads League Champions and NAIA National Semifinalists. They amassed a 21-3 overall record with an 8-1 record in conference.
