NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's golf team used a strong second round to pick up a fifth-place finish at the Purgatory Intercollegiate Thursday and Friday at the Purgatory Golf Course.
After carding 368 as a team in Thursday's round, the Tigers knocked off 16 strokes for a 340 on Friday. ONU's final score of 720 placed them fifth at the eight-team tournament.
Lizzie Howard, the defending CCAC Women's Golfer of the Week, led the Tigers again with a 172 in the 36-hole event. After firing a 92 in the opening round, Howard improved by 12 strokes Friday to move up to a four-way tie for 14th place.
Taylor Ice and Bella Rosado finished within three shots of each other, with the former carding a 179 (92-87) and the latter notching a 182 (90-92) for 23rd and 25th overall, respectively. Mya Jones rounded out the scoring for ONU in a tie for 30th with consistent rounds of 94 and 93 for a 187. Amelia Birge placed 40th at 203.
ONU will host their first tournament of the spring season with the Conference Clash at Rend Lake beginning Monday.
