DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team escapes Saint Ambrose with a 103-100 win in overtime. Khendel Rolison led the Tigers to victory with a career-high 26 points shooting 50% from the floor and making 6-10 from beyond the arc. ONU improves to 11-6 on the season and 8-2 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Conference.
Olivet traded buckets with the Fighting Bees for most of the first period with neither team leading by more than four points for the first nine minutes. The visitors ended the quarter on a 8-2 run with buckets from Olivia Demosthenes, Maggie Cora, Brooklyn Marshall, and Alayha Allen to carry a 22-17 lead into the second.
ONU rode the momentum off the run to end the first period to build a 10-point advantage with 9:17 left in the half. Rolison's three-point basket made is a 27-17 game. SAU chipped away at the deficit until they leveled the game at 39-39 with 1:22 left. The home side finished the second quarter with a 6-0 run to lead 45-41 at the halftime intermission.
Caroline Boehne put her imprint in the game scoring 14 of her 16 points in the second half and overtime. The senior forward recorded her ninth double-double of the season grabbing 12 boards. She was perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Cora registered five points and Rholison had six in the third quarter leading to their best offensive output as a team for a quarter (26 points).
Both teams entered the final quarter of regulation tied 67-67. Each side had a response to the other's scores with neither team leading by more than four points down the stretch. Four consecutive free throws by the Tigers' Boehne and Bett O'Neal lead to a 88-84 advantage with only 46 seconds remaining. SAU did not go away they score four unanswered points in their final two possessions to force overtime.
The Fighting Bees jumped out to a six-point lead in the first two minutes of the extra period. O'Neal halved the deficit with a three and spark an 8-0 run to regain the lead. Rolison hit big back-to-back threes while totaling seven points in the period to secure the win for the Tigers.
