LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team fall short in overtime 90-87 to Warner University to conclude the Warner University Tournament. Olivia Demosthenes dished out a game-high six assists to go with a team-high 16 points in the contest.
Olivet jumped out to an early lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Kaitlyn Engle got the Tigers going offensively scoring six points converting two of her three three-point attempts in the opening quarter. The Tigers created space ending the first period on an 11-1 run to hold the 21-10 advantages.
Warner opened up the next quarter with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to just one with 7:45 left in the half. ONU responded with a 9-0 run of their own with contributions from Caroline Boehne, Khendel Rolison, Demosthenes, and Alayha Allen. WU kept chipping away at the lead dropping it to three at the end of the half. Tigers held the 32-29 advantage.
Olivet had their largest offensive output in the third quarter scoring 30 points. Demosthenes scored half of her total points in the 10-minute span (8) and Tigerball as a group made 6 of 15 threes. Warner had a response as they answered with their largest offensive output for a quarter with 29 points.
ONU grew their lead to the largest of the game (12) with 8:42 left in regulation. Following a WU timeout with 4:51 left on the clock, the hosts went on a 12-3 run to send the game to overtime at 76-76. Judie Audre'Anna hit a jumpshot with eight seconds on the board to extend the game.
Warner carried the momentum into the overtime period as Channell McDonald and Jasmine Edwards combined for nine of the Royals 14 points including a 7-2 that proved too much for ONU to overcome.
