BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team outlasted the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose 115-107 in their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference home opener Wednesday night. Olivia Dirkse poured in a career-high 22 points off the bench while six Tigers scored in double-digits in the contest.
Dirkse came up clutch scoring 11 of her points in the fourth quarter. With the Fighting Bees making a 10-0 run ending at the 2:02-mark to cut the Tiger lead down to just three, the freshman guard hit a big three-point bucket with 1:54 left on the clock to thwart any comeback from the visitors. She ended the night 6-11 from the floor, 5-10 from three, and 5-6 from the line. The Davison, Mich. native stuffed the stat sheet with three rebounds, an assist, two steals, and a block.
SAU stormed out to a seven-point lead after the first quarter shooting a blistering 86.7% from the field converting 13 field goals. ONU responded in second quarter by getting to the free throw line 17 times while shooting 50% from the floor with three made threes. There were four lead changes throughout and the Tigers built their largest lead of the night with 4:46 left in the fourth quarter leading by 13 and closed out the win going 6-7 from the charity stripe down the stretch.
Bett O'Neal set a new career-high with 13 points in the game. The freshman has now scored in double figures for the third consecutive contest. Maggie Cora tied her season-high filling the basket with 17 points along with three assists. Olivia Demosthenese set a new season-high doling out seven assists with 15 points scored. Caroline Boehne and Alayha Allen cleaned up the boards with 15 combined while also scoring in double figures.
