MYERS RECORDS 1,000 CAREER POINTS AS ONU DOWNS LC 107-88

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene snapped a two-game losing skid to upend Lincoln College 107-88 Tuesday night. Zanna Myers becomes the 30th Tiger in program history to eclipse the 1,000th career point total. Karina Smits came off the bench and poured in 23 points in 13 minutes of play.

 

The Tigers went on the game's first run outscoring the Lynx 8-2 that spanned just 33 seconds. The run began with a Myers three-point basket and was capped off with a three-pointer from Khendel Rolison. With 6:24 in the first quarter, ONU built a 14-8 lead. The Lynx's ability to break the press early on led to six points on the fast break and scoring 24 of their 31 first-quarter points from within the paint.

 

Myers got hot from distance converting three additional three-point baskets in the first period. Maggie Cora and Olivia Demosthenes each swiped two steals early in the game. The Tigers turned the Lynx over 11 times that led to 18 points. LC stayed in the game early by shooting a blistering 82.4 percent from the floor. Olivet led Lincoln 34-31 at the first official break.

 

Lincoln found their footing in the contest in the second quarter going on an 11-3 run over the stretch of 4:48 to take a three-point lead at the 3:13-minute mark. Kaitlyn Engle stopped the run with a three-ball assisted by Demosthenes to level the score, 43-43. With nine ticks left in the first half, Myers drained a deep three from the center of the court to reach 1,000 career points and take a three-point lead into the locker room.

ONU registered a season-high 25 steals on the night as a team and forced Lincoln to turn the ball over 46 times. Meyers tied a season-high, while Jamie Finn set a new career-high, with six steals each in the ball-game. Nine different players recorded a steal on the night that in total led to 57 points off of turnovers.

 

Olivet made 22 three-point baskets on the night to Lincoln's one. The Tigers found their stoke from deep in the fourth quarter converting at a clip of 44 percent, their highest quarter percentage of the game. Khendel Rolison was the most efficient in the squad making 3-4 of her attempts from beyond the arc.

 

Caroline Boehne and Alayha Allen led the way on the boards combining for 18 rebounds. Boehne grabbed seven of her ten boards on the offensive end of the floor while Allen wrangled in five offensive boards of her eight total. Every Tiger contributed to the point total with two or more points and registered one or more rebounds on the night.
