NO. 20 ONU EARNS FIRST CCAC WIN OF THE SEASON AT LINCOLN

LINCOLN, Ill. – The No. 20 Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team travelled down to Lincoln College for a CCAC showdown at the Lincoln Center on Wednesday night.  The Tigers downed the Lynx, 93-65.

 

Kennedy Johnson and Maggie Cora kicked off the scoring for the Tigers as they both drained threes in the opening minute of the game.  Caroline Boehne buried a layup to extend the lead to 8-0.  After Lincoln cut the game to 8-7, Johnson, Olivia Demothenes, and Karina Smits combined for the next eight points making the score, 16-7. The Tigers led at the end of the first quarter, 21-12. 

 

The Tigers and Lynx got off to a slow start, but Alayha Allen kicked off the scoring for the Tigers with a jumper just over three minutes into the second quarter.  The Tigers pulled ahead, 25-14.  Allen's jumper sparked a 7-0 run as they led, 30-14. With under two minutes left, Smits knocked down a three for the final Tiger points of the second quarter and led 39-22 going into the half.

Cora and Khendel Rolison both drained threes to begin the third quarter.  Boehne then added two to the Tiger lead to make the score, 47-22.  At the score of 53-22, the Lynx went on a 6-0 run until Demosthenes hit a three-ball.  The Tigers still led 56-28.  With about 2:50 left, Boehne tallied five straight points and extended the ONU lead to, 62-35.  Boehne continued her hot hand in the final minute of the quarter as she notched the final four points for the Tigers as they led 68-40 going into the final quarter.  Jamie Finn kicked off the scoring for the Tigers with a layup to make the score, 70-40.  With about five minutes left, threes by Finn and Demothenes extend the Tiger lead to 86-58. 

 

The Tigers saw production from Kaitlyn Clark and Allen down the stretch as they defeated the Lynx 93-65, to win their first CCAC matchup of the season.
