ONU SECURES DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP AT JUDSON

ELGIN, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University secured its first sweep of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference slate with two wins in a doubleheader over Judson Saturday afternoon at the Judson Softball Complex.

The Tigers rallied late and held on for a 3-2 win in the opener before using a big inning to end things early in a 9-1 nightcap victory.

Judson (9-27, 1-9 CCAC) struck first in the first game, punching in a run in the opening frame to stake an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers were held scoreless through three innings before Kahiwa Ili changed things with one swing of the bat. In the top of the fourth, the sophomore third-baseman sent a two-run homer over the wall to put ONU on top.

Alyssa McCord provided a key insurance run with an RBI double to plate Ali Fullingim in the sixth inning. Judson powered a home run of their own in the bottom of the sixth, but that would be the closest they would get as Allie Timm retired the Eagles in order in the final inning to lock down the win.

Timm went the distance as the ONU starter, picking up her team-leading ninth win of the year allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out four.

After a quiet first inning in the nightcap, ONU exploded for six runs in the second frame to quickly put the game out of reach. Four Tigers recorded an RBI in the big inning, capped off by a bases-clearing, three-RBI double off the bat of Timm.

Fullingim and McCord added RBI hits in the third inning, and Olivia Saldana plated another run in the fifth to put the Tigers up 9-0. The Eagles finally got on the board with a run in the fifth, but it was not enough to stave off the mercy rule as ONU closed out the game in five innings.

Saldana picked up her fourth win as the starter, allowing just three hits and not surrendering an earned run. She also picked up a strikeout and did not allow a walk in her five innings of work.

The Tigers will look to build a win streak with a doubleheader at Calumet Tuesday.
