TIGERS SPLIT CONFERENCE TWIN BILL WITH TRINITY AT HOME

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene University's softball team earned a 3-2 victory in game one before falling 5-3 in game two of a home doubleheader against Trinity Christian College on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field. Timely hitting and a late-game spark propelled ONU in the opener, while a three-run third inning proved costly in the nightcap despite a strong response.

In game one, after falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, the Tigers responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Gwen Bender drove in Zoe Oshiro with a two-out RBI single, then added two more in the sixth to complete the comeback. Bender led ONU with two hits and a two-run homer, while Stephanie Hause added an RBI sacrifice fly to put the Tigers in front. Allie Timm earned her eighth win of the season in the circle, throwing a complete game with seven strikeouts and allowing just six hits. ONU matched Trinity in hits (six apiece) but played a clean game defensively with zero errors.

In game two, ONU found themselves in a hole again after Trinity pushed across three unearned runs in the third and tacked on two more in the fourth. The Tigers answered with a pair of runs in the fourth behind a two-RBI double from Alex Hofman, and Meegan Randall added an RBI double in the fifth to make it a two-run game. Hause tallied a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, while Timm kept Trinity scoreless over her 3.2 innings of relief. ONU outhit the Trolls 11-12 but couldn't convert key opportunities late, leaving 10 runners on base. Despite the loss, the Tigers turned in another strong defensive showing, including a pair of double plays.

Looking Ahead

ONU returns to action on Apr. 12th, with a road conference doubleheader at Judson University. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. CST in Elgin, Ill.
