CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team had six players earn all-conference honors as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) announced its postseason softball awards.
Mallory O'Connor was named the CCAC's Freshman of the year and joined Haley Dobson and Faith Mikos on the all-CCAC first team while Kori Fricke, Margaret Landis, and Megan Mann were selected to the second team.
O'Connor was recognized as the conference's top freshman, becoming the first Tiger to win the award since Emily Carstens in 2016. O'Connor ranked among the top seven players in no fewer than eight categories in her first collegiate season with her 60 hits, 41 runs batted in and .411 batting average being her top marks. The Bourbonnais, Ill., native placed third in the conference in each of those areas.
O'Connor also rated fifth-best in on-base percentage (.464), sixth in runs scored (35) and total bases (74) and seventh in doubles (12) and walks (17).
Dobson batted .338, hit three home runs, and recorded 33 RBIs. The graduate infielder from Beecher, Ill., also notched 18 doubles, good for second in the conference. Of the 18 players named to the all-conference first team, Dobson was one of only four players to be a repeat selection. This also marks the third-consecutive season where Dobson has earned an all-conference nod from the CCAC.
Mikos earned a spot on the all-CCAC first team after sending out 42 hits for a .464 batting average, both second-best marks on the team. The sophomore outfielder from Manhattan, Ill. recorded five doubles, two triples, and 23 RBIs on a .464 slugging percentage while recording a .875 fielding percentage. This is the first all-conference selection for Mikos.
Fricke was the team's top pitcher, compiling a 15-4 record with a .2.62 earned run average. The senior from Manteno, Ill., started 23 games and completed 14 of those, tossing two shutouts. She averaged 4.30 strikeouts per game, recording 87 strikeouts in 141 ⅔ innings. Fricke also could have earned all-conference recognition with her bat, hitting .311 at the plate while notching 19 RBIs and two home runs. She has earned an all-conference honor for three-straight years, including last season's CCAC Pitcher of the Year accord.
Landis earned second team all-CCAC honors for hitting .96 on the year with 34 hits. The junior outfielder from Beecher, Ill. recorded four doubles, two triples, and 14 RBIS. She was third on the team in walks drawn and had a .961 fielding percentage on 44 putouts in center field.
Mann led the club by batting .451. The senior infielder from Midland, Mich., who earned first team all-CCAC honors last year, also led the team in slugging (.704) and home runs with four. Mann recorded a two-home run game in a 10-2 six-inning win over St. Ambrose on April 14.
ONU finished the season 30-16 overall and finished as the runner-up in the CCAC Tournament.
