TIGERS HOSTED THE ONU TIGER OPEN ON SATURDAY

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – On Saturday, the Olivet Nazarene University men's track and field team hosted the ONU Tiger Open at Ward Field.  The Tigers saw some good performances on the track and in the field. 

 

Jalen Dunnigan and Vince Giuliano got the Tigers off a great start on the track.  Dunnigan and Giuliano finished first and second in the 100-meter dash with times of 10.96 and 10.97, respectively.  The Tiger sprinters also had a strong showing in the 200-meter dash as Giuliano took first with a time of 21.49, which is good for a "B" qualifying standard, while Andrew Hudson finished second, and Dunnigan finished third.  Ben Tavares then finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.04.  In the 5,000-meter run, Joshua Scharpenberg finished second with a time of 15:58.06. 

 

The Tigers also celebrated a lot of success in the relays.  The Tiger 4x100 meter relay team finished first and achieved the "A" and B" standard with a time of 41.42 seconds.  Then, the "A" ONU 4x400-meter relay team crossed the finish line first with a time of 3:20.97, while the "B" team was second with a mark of 3:24.01.

 

In the field events, Francisco Benavides started the Tigers off on the right foot as he placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.92 meters.  In the shot put, Austin Kasap placed third with a mark of 13.90 meters.    Kasap followed that performance in the shot put into the discuss and hammer throw with a sixth-place and second-place showings, respectively.  Daniel DeRamus placed third in the discuss with a mark of 45.01 meters.  The Tigers closed out the field events when reigning CCAC Male Field Athlete of the Week placed second in the javelin with a mark of 51.81 meters.
