BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) selected Olivet Nazarene University men's track and field athletes Vince Giuliano and Austin Kasap as its Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week. The league announced its selections on Wednesday. This is the second such honor for Kasap this season while Giuliano earned his first Track Athlete of the Week distinction this season.
Giuliano had a very strong weekend for the Tigers at the Don McGarey Invitational. Giuliano placed in the top-15 in all four events he raced in. The Tiger sprinter picked up a new personal record (PR) in the 400-meter dash, running the event in 49.85 seconds. The Concord, Mich. native had his best individual finish in the 200-meter dash as he finished 10th out of 77 runners with a time of 21.75 seconds. Giuliano and his team also saw some good times in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays finishing sixth and fourth, respectively. Vince is currently first in the CCAC in the 200- and 400-meter dashes as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.
Like Giuliano, Kasap also had a strong performance at the Don McGarey Invitational as well. The Tiger senior thrower placed in the top-10 in each of his three events that he competed in. Kasap finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.96 meters, sixth in the discus with a mark of 42.20 meters, and seventh in the shot put, with a mark of 14.21. His marks in the shot put and hammer throw are tops in the CCAC and his mark in the discus is the second in the conference.
The Tigers travel to Benedictine University for the Eagle Open on Saturday, April 2nd. Action starts at 11 a.m.
