BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's tennis team opened its postseason run by taking down Judson 4-0 in the semifinal round of the CCAC Tournament Thursday afternoon at Snowbarger.
After dropping the top doubles match, ONU rallied with dominant 6-2 victories in the final two matches to secure the doubles point. Chatton Haws and Andres Viedma Diaz teamed up to handle the No. 2 match while Davi Toledo and Hector Romero tacked down the point in the final match.
Haws set the tone at the top in the singles matches, winning the No. 1 contest in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. Juan Banuls was near perfect in a 6-0, 6-4 triumph in the No. 4 match to put the Tigers one point away from victory.
And that point came from Viedma, who bounced back from an opening set loss to pick up a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles to seal off the ONU win and punch the team's ticket to the championship match.
The Tigers will play for the CCAC banner Saturday afternoon at defending champion Holy Cross.
