PARK FOREST, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's tennis team secured the doubles point, but it was not enough to keep up with Holy Cross in a 4-1 defeat Monday afternoon at the Park Forest Tennis & Health Club.
The Tigers opened the match with a bang, with Sanskar Choubey and Paul Saleh knocking off the top-10 ranked Holy Cross doubles pairing 6-4. Davi Toledo and Hector Romero followed suit with a 6-3 win in the No. 2 match to secure the doubles point and stake ONU to an early 1-0 lead.
But the Saints, who won the CCAC regular season and tournament trophies last season, bounced back in the singles matches. Holy Cross locked down four straight-set wins in singles to end the match early.
ONU, now 10-5 overall and 1-1 in league play, will look to get back in the win column with a road match Spring Arbor Thursday.
