MOLINE, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's tennis team took eight of the nine matches to take down the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees in the conference opener Friday afternoon at the QC Tennis Club.
ONU asserted their dominance early by picking up wins in all three doubles matches. Paul Saleh and Sanskar took down the top match 6-1, Chatton Haws and Brian Ayala won the No. 2 match 6-2, and Davi Toledo and Hector Romero triumphed 6-2 in the No. 3 match to secure the doubles point with ease.
Haws, the reigning back-to-back CCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, set the tone with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the top singles match. Paul Saleh kept the pace with a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 match, while Juan Banuls Diaz won 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 3 match to lock up the team victory.
Ayala and Choubey punctuated the conference-opening victory with wins at the No. 5 and 6 matches, respectively, as the Tigers picked up their seventh consecutive team triumph.
ONU will look to continue its hot start in league play with a home match against Holy Cross Monday.
