BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The (RV) Olivet Nazarene men's soccer team upended the eighth-seeded Saint Xavier Cougars, 5-2 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Quarterfinals Saturday night. With the victory, the Tigers move on to the semifinals where they will host fourth-seeded Lincoln College next Wednesday.
Justin Eisenmann opened the scoring for the Tigers early. A nifty one-two passing sequence with Kurodo Ihara put Eisenmann through on SXU's goal. He beat the Cougar netminder to the left post to make it 1-0 at the 3:35-mark. ONU's backline stood firm limiting Saint Xavier to two shots with only one on frame in the first period. The introduction of James Lynch and Konstantin Papanikolaou spurred Olivet to tally two more goals before the intermission. Max Jasper rolled the ball across the face of the goal for the touch and finish from Lynch in the 42nd minute. It took only 2:20 for the third as Papanikolaou found Lynch inside the penalty area. Lynch fed Jasper with a behind-the-leg touch-pass for the easy finish.
Halftime: Olivet Nazarene 3, Saint Xavier 0
Saint Xavier's Angel Lopez was shown red at the 61:41-minute mark giving Olivet Nazarene the man advantage. Despite the man advantage, SXU stole a goal back in the 74th minute of play. Kenny Huber gave his bench a run in the match to keep his team fresh with eyes on the second round. Edgar Pani found the back of the net in the 88th minute assist credited to Nick Kilian. Only 27 seconds ticked off the clock before Unla Hussieni drew a foul in the box. Pani stepped up to the penalty spot and completed the brace. The Cougars registered another goal only 12 seconds later with a shot that deflected into the net, but there was no chance for a comeback as ONU played out the remaining time.
