TIGERS DROP FIRST GAME IN SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. FOR THE NAIA OPENING ROUND TO INDIANA SOUTHEAST

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team fell in their first game of the NAIA Baseball Opening Rounds at the hands of Indiana Southeast 22-4. The Tigers marked their fourth appearance in the event, their third in consecutive seasons. This is their first loss in the double-elimination format in the Santa Barbara bracket.

The Grenadiers put up a crooked number in the bottom of the first inning. An RBI double and a two-run home run set the tone in the early contest of the day to take a 3-0 lead. Tyler Wheeler responded the next inning to put the Tigers on the board with a solo home run to left field, his 13th of the campaign, to cut into the lead. IU-SE exploded for a 10-0 run between the second and fourth innings to break the game open and take a demanding 13-1 lead.

The Tigers ended the run in the fifth inning as Nolan Luis' RBI single to right center field drove in Donovan Yelle. Tyler Wheeler's RBI sacrifice fly tallied the catcher's second run batted in for the afternoon to leave the score 13-3 after four and a half innings of play.

Indiana Southeast proceeded to score the final nine of 10 runs for the contest. Their eight-run unanswered streak was snapped in the eighth inning when Jordan Almodovar hit his third home run of the season to right field.
