RV ONU SPLIT 2-1 DECISIONS IN HOME OPENER

JOLIET, Ill. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University baseball team hosted the Cardinals of Concordia Ann Arbor on Friday at DuPage Medical Field.  The Tigers used solid pitching to edge the Cardinals, 2-1, in game one, while the Cardinals secured a 2-1 win in game two. 

 

Game One: RV ONU 2, CUAA 1

Head coach Jeff Mullikin gave the starting nod to Ethan Underwood in game one.  Underwood was dealing for the Tigers as he went six innings and surrendered a run on two hits and fanned six batters.  Jonathan Simpson came into the game in the seventh and picked up the save. 

 

The game only saw three runs on seven hits, combined between both teams.  The Tigers opened up the scoring in the first inning when Dylan Miller scored Jacob Bulthuis on a sacrifice fly to right field making the score, 1-0.  ONU added a run in the fourth inning when Kai Hudson knocked in Gunnar Pullins with an RBI single.  The Cardinals' only run came on a solo home run to left field in the top of the sixth. 

 

Tyler Wheeler threw out a pair of runners trying to steal in the game as the Tigers were on the right side of a 2-1 win. 

 

Game Two: CUAA 2, RV ONU 1

The Tigers handed the ball of to Aren Gustafson in game two as went the distance and gave up only two runs on six hits and struck out five batters. 

 

Like the first game, runs were few-and-far-behind.  The Cardinals opened the scoring in the top of the second inning as a pair of runs came across to score on a pair of RBI groundouts.  The lone run for the home team came in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Bulthuis which made the score, 2-1.

 

The Tigers had plenty of opportunities to either tie the game or take the lead down the stretch as they fell in game two, 2-1.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The RV Tigers return to DuPage Medical Field on Saturday, March 5th to host these same Cardinals.  The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. with the second starting approximately a half hour after the conclusion of first game.
