No. 17 Tiger Take Two From Cardinal Stritch

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The No. 17 Olivet Nazarene University softball team opened its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule hosting the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University on Tuesday.

Game One: No. 17 ONU 8 CSU 0 F/5

Game one of today's doubleheader was all Tigers. The Tigers marked their first run in the first inning. With two outs, Miranda Southall (SR/Wilmington, Ill.) walked and Alli Davis (SR/Mount Zion, Ill. ) doubled to right center, putting runners on second and third. Then, Kori Fricke (SO/Manteno, Ill.) reached on an error by the shortstop. Meanwhile, Southall scored making the score 1-0. ONU added a pair of runs in the third. Kori Fricke doubled home Katie Marker (JR/Yorkville, Ill. ) for the first run and Sydney Harrison (SR/Lansing, Ill.) skied a ball out to center field and drove in Davis making the score 3-0.

The Tigers picked up a run in the fourth when Margaret Landis (FR/Beecher, Ill.) scored on an error by the first basemen. The Tigers closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Fricke led off the inning with a home run. With one out, Haley Dobson (JR/Beecher, Ill.) singled. With two outs, Margaret Landis singled putting runners on first and second. Sara Beers (SR/Greenwood, Ind. ) then dumped a double into left field and platting two runs. After Marker doubled, Southall closed the game with an RBI single making the score 8-0.

Southall pitched five innings of shutout softball and defeated the Wolves 8-0

Game Two: No. 17 ONU 6, CSU 4

The Tigers opened its scoring in the bottom of the second inning. After back-to-back singles by Davis and Fricke, Kate Landis (JR/Beecher, Ill.) walked to load the bases. Harrison then picked up her second sacrifice fly on the day making the score 1-0. Dobson then came up and smacked a single through the left side and platted Fricke. Margaret Landis then delivered a two-bagger and scored Kate Landis and Dobson. The Tigers led 4-0. The Tigers kept up their scoring ways in the third when Davis scored on an error and Dobson doubled home Kate Landis. The Tigers took a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Wolves came to life in the top of the sixth and marked four runs, but Fricke set down Cardinal Stritch in order in the top of the seventh to win 6-4.
