LOGANSPORT, Ind. – The No. 14 Olivet Nazarene University opened its 2021 season on sun-splashed afternoon at Logansport High School competing against the Huntington University Foresters.
Game One: No. 14 Olivet Nazarene 7, Huntington 4
The Tigers did not waste anytime on getting on the board. At the top of the first, Margaret Landis (FR/Beecher, Ill.) led off with a walk and Sara Beers (SR/Greenwood, Ind. ) hit her in with an RBI triple. The next batter was Miranda Southall (SR/Wilmington, Ill.) and she drove in Beers on an RBI double. After Alli Davis (SR/Mount Zion, Ill. ) singled, putting runners on first and third, Southall crossed home plate on a passed ball making the score 3-0. Later in the inning, the Tigers loaded the bases for Haley Dobson (JR/Beecher, Ill.) and she singled home Davis making the score 4-0.

After the Tigers gave one run back in the bottom of the first, the Tigers extended their lead in the second inning. Margaret Landis led off the frame with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Beers then drove in Margaret Landis on a single making the score 5-1. With one out, Davis doubled to deep center field and knocked in Beers. The Tigers led 6-1. The Tigers added another run at the top of the 5th on an RBI single by Sydney Harrison (SR/Lansing, Ill.) making the score 7-1. The Foresters added a run in the bottom half of the inning to making the score 7-2.
The Foresters marked two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was too little too late as the Tigers took game one, 7-4.
Game Two: No. 14 Olivet Nazarene 16, Huntington 2 F/5
After a scoreless first inning, the Tigers continued to hit the ball well in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Margaret Landis drew a walk and drove in Dobson. Then Beers unloaded the bases on a three-run triple moving the score to 4-0.

After the Foresters scored two runs in the bottom of the second, the Tigers opened flood gates in the top of the third. Davis led off the inning with a home run. With one out and the bases full of Tigers, Kori Fricke (SO/Manteno, Ill.) drove in Harrison with a single. Then, Harrison scored on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Southall knocked in Katie Marker (JR/Yorkville, Ill. ) and Margaret Landis on a single. The next batter was Davis as she continued to hit the ball well and picked up a two-run triple to score Beers and Southall. In all, the Tigers extended their lead to 11-2. The Tigers tallied another run in the fourth inning on a home run by Harrison.
The Tigers continued to pile on at the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Southall doubled to deep center. Then with two outs, Kate Landis (JR/Beecher, Ill.) tripled and Southall scored. Then, Harrison singled home Kate Landis. A couple batters later, Fricke doubled home Harrison and Dobson making the score 16-2.
The Tiger offense lashed out 13 hits including 7 extra base hits to defeat Huntington 16-2 in five innings.
