JOLIET, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's track and field team competed in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers finished as the conference runner-up with 221 points.
Friday Action
ONU saw some early success in the track events on Friday when James LeGrand took first-place in the 5000m racewalk with a time of 31:47.21. The Tigers concluded matters on the track on Friday when they finished second in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:06.57. The Tigers got off to a good start in the field events on Friday when Ivan Williams placed second in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.63 meters. In the high jump, Francisco Benavides finished as the conference runner-up with mark of 1.90 meters. In the javelin, Brody Vollrath won the event as he threw a final mark of 48.55 meters. The Tigers see themselves in tied for first with Saint Ambrose with 73 points.
Saturday Action
The Tigers got off to a great start in the 100-meter dash as Esau Haynes won the race with a final time of 10.72 seconds. Andrew Hudson crossed the finish line in third in the race. The Tiger sprinters kept up the pace as Vince Giuliano won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.18 seconds, which is good for an "A" qualifying standard and is 16th in the nation. Hudson also earned an "A" qualifying standard in the 200-meter dash with a final time of 21.35. Giuliano kept up his impressive day on the track as he took third-place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.65 seconds. In the 800-meter run, Hayden Colclasure won the race with a time of 1:54.76. Ethan Hodel took third in the race. In the 5k, Taylor Vallangeon earned all-conference recognition with a third-place finish with a time of 5:14.03.
The Tigers closed out action on the track as they won both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. The Tigers won the 4x100 with a time of 41.50 seconds, while ONU took the 4x400 with a time of 3:19.93. The 4x100 team earned an "A" qualifying standard.
Noah Sears earned a "B" qualifying standard to kick off field action for the Tigers in the pole vault. Sears won the event with a mark of 4.70 meters. Austin Kasap then earned the victory in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.99 meters. Vollrath also earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the hammer throw.
The Tigers finished as the conference runner-up with 221 points. Saint Ambrose won the conference title with 253 points.
