Nine Tigers named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday that 31 football student-athletes have been named 2015 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Carroll (Mont.) led all institutions with 14 individuals on the list.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

ONU had nine Tigers honored for their work in the classroom, two more than last year; Ryan Smith (SR/Belleville, Ill.) was named for a third time. Zach Gross (SR/Elgin, Ill.) was named for a second time. Thomas Dexter (SR/Canal Winchester, Ohio), Codey Bishop (JR/Bloomington, Ill.), Corbin Hesterberg (JR/Ogden, Ill.), Ryan Jennings (JR/Savannah, Ga.), Matt McDivitt (JR/Marion, Ind.), Drew Philson (JR/Horton, Mich.) and Palmer Ponstein (JR/Jenison, Mich.) were all first time selections.
