BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – After 45 minutes of action Olivet Nazarene University led 1-0. Then the game was tied 1-1, ONU led again 2-1 and with less than seven minutes to play in the game the Tigers found themselves tied 2-2 with Trinity Christian College (Ill.) fighting for a CCAC win on Tuesday night. The Tigers' Matheus Guimaraes (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) put a ball in the back of the net to put ONU ahead 3-2, which is the way the game would end. Olivet's win was their fourth in the last five games, and the Tigers stay unbeaten at home (5-0-1).
From the start of Tuesday night's game the Tigers (6-5-1, 4-1) dominated the ball and kept it on their end. They continually pounded the ball at the Trolls' (3-8-1, 1-4) net, tallying 19 first half shots and 30 total, placing 13 on goal. They eventually scored their first goal in the 16th minute Richard Schneider (SR/Moerfelden-Walldorf, Germany) played a beautiful ball into the box off a free kick that slipped past the defense and goalie. For the remainder of the half the Trolls would escape attack after attack by the Tigers keeping the score at 1-0 with 45 minutes left to play.
Meanwhile, the Olivet offense wanted more and 2:38 into the half they weren't the team to get that goal. The Tiger defense would have a rare mishap allowing the Trolls to take advantage of a 2-on-1 and TCC scored a game-tying goal. Getenet Timmermans was assisted by Alejandro Sotelo. Almost 20 minutes later and the game was still tied, ONU was in need a goal. TCC did a good job over that time defending their goal until Christian Henock-Berhanu (SR/Bourbonnais, Ill.) played a great pass across the box where Schneider was waiting to volley in his second goal of the game. ONU went on to lead 2-1 until the 82nd minute when Fekedu Timmermans scored on another assist from Sotelo. That's when the Tiger offense went quick and less than two minutes later Guimaraes made a great shot after receiving a pass from Tumi Moshobane (JR/Soweto, South Africa). ONU did a great job defending over the final six minutes fending off the feisty Trolls that very much wanted to tie the game again.
ONU's goalie, Chris Taborn (SR/Matteson, Ill.) had only three saves while Mathis Muller had 10 saves for the Trolls.
The Tigers will be on the road at Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at 10 a.m.
