LIMA, Ohio – Wednesday afternoon marked the final nonconference game for the Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer team. The Tigers traveled east to play the No. 10 ranked team in the NAIA, the University of Northwestern Ohio, looking for their first road win of the season. The Racers scored two goals in the first 25 minutes, proving why they are top-10 team. ONU made it a 2-1 game in the second half, but it wouldn't be enough.
Early in the game the Racers (2-1-1) came out fast and within the first three minutes placed a ball on goal and forced a save by ONU's goalie, Chris Taborn (SR/Matteson, Ill.). The Tigers (2-4-1) did the same on their end five minutes later forcing a save by the UNOH goalkeeper. However, ONU wouldn't turn it into a goal as the Racers regained possession and eventually a goal in the 16th minute. Pascal Debowiak made it a 1-0 game on an assist by Nick Doutch. Over the next eight minutes both teams traded shots but it was the Racers who converted for a second time. Debowiak scored his second goal of the game in the 24th minute. This time it was an assist from Dumisani Manyange.
For only the second time this season the Tigers trailed at the half and were needing to post a goal on the scoreboard. Olivet was able to finally score but it took almost 28 minutes off the clock to do so. Marcus Wollak (JR/Eau Claire, Wis.) scored his third goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game. He was assisted by Tumi Moshobane (JR/Soweto, South Africa), his third assist of the season. The Tigers now only trailed by one but with only 17 minutes to play. They managed five more shots before the horn sounded, but ONU didn't get the goal they needed to force overtime.
ONU's goalie, Chris Taborn tallied five saves but the Racers two first half goals were too much. Two UNOH goalies split action, Caio Preza played the first half and had two saves and Mark McMillan played the final 45 minutes and had two saves of his own.
ONU will be off for the next five days before they start CCAC play at home against Judson University (Ill.). Gametime is slotted for 5 p.m.
