CHICAGO --- For the second time in the ten-year history of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Sports Cup standings, one point has separated the top two league members. Aided by no less than a share of five regular-season titles, seven second-place finishes and one conference tournament title, Olivet Nazarene University captured its eighth cup in as many years and ninth overall by edging out University of St. Francis, 136.5-135.5.
The Tigers' program, led by Director of Athletics Gary Newsome, earned outright titles in men's soccer and both women's indoor and outdoor track & field, while tying for league crowns in women's soccer and women's volleyball. The men's soccer team claimed the tournament title.
St. Francis gained the most regular-season crowns in the 15-member league, producing six outright and sharing one in women's volleyball. The outright titles came in women's basketball, women's cross country and softball, to go along with a sweep of men's running titles in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track and field. The Saints also captured tournament crowns in softball and women's volleyball.
Cardinal Stritch University, which placed third in the standings with 121.5 points, gained the most tournament titles with three in men's and women's tennis and men's volleyball. The Wolves' program also tied Olivet Nazarene for the second-most regular-season titles with five, which came in the sports of men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and a shared title in women's soccer.
St. Ambrose University and Saint Xavier University rounded out the top five cup finishers, as well being the only other schools to amass at least 100 points. St. Ambrose, which garnered a tournament title in baseball, finished with 112 points with Saint Xavier at 104. The Cougars collected a tournament crown in women's basketball.
The CCAC All-Sports Cup is awarded annually to the institution that earns the most points from a total of 12 sports out of the 18 sponsored by the conference (men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's and women's outdoor track & field, baseball and softball).
