BOUBONNAIS, Ill. – Elizabeth Soper (SR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) paced the Olivet Nazarene University women's cross country team on Friday, Sept. 29 at the 2016 Illinois Intercollegiate Championship, placing third overall in the 140 runner field. The 5k race was held at Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bradley, Illinois. Soper and the Tigers finished second overall.
Soper finagled through the constant rain and mud puddles to cross the finish line in 18:49.2. Jackie Schane of Aurora was the overall winner, finishing in 18:20.1, followed by Khia Kurtenbach of the University of Chicago in second at 18:27.2.
Sarah Ray (SR/Warsaw, Ind.) finished second for the Tigers and 11th overall, finishing in 19:20.8. Alexa Beezhold (JR/Saint John, Ind.) finished in 19:40.7 to place 17th, while Karley Divan (SR/Lees Summit, Mo.) finished 21st in 20:06.7. Rounding out the top five for Olivet was Courtney Vande Vorde (FR/Hamilton, Mich.). Vande Vorde crossed the finish line in 20:14.2 to finish in 23rd place.
The University of Chicago captured the overall team title in the 13 team field with 29 points. Olivet finished with 75, followed closely by Aurora University (Ill.) with 78. North Central College (Ill.) with 106. Trinity Christian College (Ill.) finished fifth with 143 points.
Olivet will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Fighting Bees Invite hosted by Saint Ambrose University (Iowa). The event will be run at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf, Iowa. The women's race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
